LOL.

What a hoot if the Black Canary Archive resulted in a revival of -- Johnny Thunder and Peachy Pet!!!!

Hard to believe!!!

You know, though, I've been re-reading a lot of those old Johnny Thunder spots and they aren't bad at all. The art's primitive but the stories actually seemed to range from charming to funny.

Mr. Utley--

Sandman just liked to accessorize?!?!?!

I have this image of Wes Dodds subscribing to International Male catlaog!!

If he makes a comeback and starts wearing one of those bright lemon yellow leather trenchcoats -- all of us Sandman fans KNOW where to find you!!!

Bob,

Just to turn the direction of some of the posts, I wanted to say thanks.

Thanks for talking to us.

Thanks for 2002 Archives! I just looked it over. We all have our pet favorites we're begging for (Rip Hunter and the Western Johnny Thunder would be mine), but in 2002 we got to see Batman in World's Finest, H. G. Peter's Wonder Woman, 5 great JSA stories, C.C. Beck's early work on the real Captain Marvel, more Barry and Hal. It was an awesome year! Geez, i almost forgot Tor and those great Spirit stories by Fine and Cole (you reprinted some other work by Cole in 2002 that I liked, also). Thanks Bob and DC! What a year!

2003 ain't bad either! That Aquaman volume was too much fun for words. I picked up Dynamic Duo today. And, the Spectre next month....to die for (ha--I couldn't resist).

Thanks Bob and DC. Best stuff I read each month.

I have two questions. We know about half the 2003 schedule (Aquaman, Dynamic Duo, Spectre, JLA, Legion, Challs). So:

1) As the schedule for the remainder of the year is firming up, how many Archives total do you see?

2) Since we are straight super-heroes this year (which suits me just fine) and we are 4 #1's that we know of) how many more #1's do you see?

D.

Okay, so Softcovers tend to be solicited once the Hardcover has gone out of print. My question is, is there anywhere where we can find out about what is actually available and what is not?

The DC website does not always seem to be up to date on this and I would like to be able to look through the listings, see what has come out and what is still available so I can ask specific questions about stuff that is no longer available that I would like to see back in print or hardcovers that I would like to see in a softcover format etc.

Cheers

Oh, and sorry for echoing your posts gothcityfan. I guess I was a bit lazy in not reading through everything but I tried to keep it concise.

Thanks.

there's an article at http://www.newsarama.com that mentions dc will be putting batman archives volume 1 at 19.95.i think it mentions for initial orders.bob or anyone else can you explain this? does this mean if i order this archive in the relevant issue of previews i'll pay the full or discounted price?i am interested this hance me asking back in the other friend if it'd be brought back into print

also bob you may not be able to comment,so say what you can.these batman trades that have yet to be approved is it possible we can see some pre NML stuff.the unfortunate thing with batman is what to collect since there is so much material.thank you so much for dynamic duo archives.i got this on thursday and am two issues in and loving it.

got my vote for dynamic duo archives 2 !

thanks bob once again and have a good weekend sir!

Should Man of Steel come back to print, I do not think it would contain World of Krypton, World of Smallville and World of Metropolis. After all, that would mean 18 issues under the cover and that's just a wee bit too much. I'd sooner collect the three minis together if we ever found a market.

The President Lex collection will be announced shortly but bear in mind, I plucked 2 pages here and 3 pages there so the issues mentioned won't all be 22 pages each.

As for the shakeup in the DCU and the recent DP cancellation, one had nothing to do with the other. DP held on for as long as possible but finally the numbers were too low. We saw it had something unique, especially with the art, but the word of mouth never generated additional sales. Companies go through editorial shakeups all the time and the reasons differ. 'Nuff said.

The new T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents series will not afect our scheduling for the archives.

The casebinding, the cloth hardback material, has remained black for simplicity, I would guess, although the recent Plastic Man was still in purple.

Yeah, GA Flash Vol. 2 was on my first round list. But remember, I put on more than twice the GA and SA books we're likely to publish in 2004 so don't get your hopes up.

As for the plain clothes comment, it should be read to mean possibly war, western, mystery, etc. Just not brightly colored spandex.

Yes, the Batman Illustrated by Neal Adams Vol. 1 project is proceeding. It'll be advanced solicitied shortly and available in September. 6 of the 8 stories are out for color separation, Neal's cover and intro are in so we're in good shape.

Justice Society Returns has been requested quite a bit and we do pay attention.

American Flagg would be great to collect but no deals, no negotiations have been contemplated.

If our website's backlist seems out of date, I refer you to your locla retailer who can check the Diamond catalogue to see what's available in the Star System.

Have a good long weekend, see you Tuesday.

The reduced price plan is a wonderful idea--thanks, Bob and DC. One question--the Newsarama story says that DC will experiment with the $19.95 price on the next couple of Archives that have to go back to press. Any idea which volumes those might be? I'll cross my fingers for Superman in Action #1, Legion #1 or JLA #1 at that price. How many people would buy, say, Legion #9 or Superman #5 even at a cut rate if they didn't have any of the earlier volumes?

I would certainly welcome some of the Archive series I did not plan to get initially at a lower price when they went back in printing. I have most of the Silver Age volumes, but would consider snagging a few Golden Age ones as they were printed again at the lower cost. $49.95 is not attractive to me for GA stuff, but $19.95 is very inticing.

As for series, would I buy an issue in the middle of the run if I didn't have the others? Sure. That's how I have been filling in my LSH run. Got 1 to 4 first, then 10 and 11, recently 7 to 9. Eventually I'll get 5 and 6.

Hi Bob,

Is there any chance the TALES OF THE NEW TEEN TITANS miniseries being collected? With the upcoming animated series, revamped comic, and action figure set coming out, Starfire, Raven, Cyborg, and Changeling will be getting a lot of exposure. It might be good to revist their origins (and the Perez art certainly doesnt hurt).

Well, *I* would. But going with v.1s IS probably a wiser course of action overall.

And Bob, thanks for answering my question. Enjoy the long weekend!

I figures this would eventually see print in either vol. 3 or 4 of the Archives. (It should go right before the first Blackfire arc.)

Hi Mr. Greenberger!

One quick suggestion and two questions coming your way.

The Suggestion:
Since the JSA: All Stars mini-series is coming out in May, why not publish The Justice Society Returns mini-series in TPB format then? This way readers of the mini-series can get the storyline that was the jump on point for the current JSA run and read a mini-series similar to the one they'd be reading in May (the JSA: All Stars mini-series).

On a side note, The Justice Society Returns mini-series, is pretty much nonexistent in comic book store backissue bins (except The Justice Society Returns: All Star Comics#2 but what good is that without #1 and the 7 one shot books in between).

Oh and if you do decide to put it into a tpb, could you please add the All Star Comics: 80 Page Giant#1, from September 1999. In short the tpb would have 10 issues total.

The 10 issues:
1)The Justice Society Returns: All Star Comics#1

2)The Justice Society Returns: Adventure Comics#1

3)The Justice Society Returns: Sensation Comics#1

4)The Justice Society Returns: Thrilling Comics#1

5)The Justice Society Returns: Star Spangled Comics#1

6)The Justice Society Returns: Smash Comics#1

7)The Justice Society Returns: National Comics#1

8)The Justice Society Returns: All-American Comics#1

9)The Justice Society Returns: All Star Comics#2

10)All Star Comics: 80 Page Giant#1 (September 1999)

The Two Questions:
1)Is there any update you can give about seeing the beginning of Geoff John's run on The Flash be in TPB format (this would be the Wonderland storyline which runs from The Flash#164-169) as well as the rest of Mark Waid's Flash run in TPB format?

Two Examples:
The Black Flash storyline through the Chain Lightning storyline:
From The Flash#139-150

The Dark Flash storyline:
From The Flash#151-160 (which includes the Honeymoon issue (the issue that Scott Kolins drew...the first Flash issue he drew until coming on board as the new artist for the current creative team) and the lead story from The Flash: secret files and Origins#2? Or until and including The Turtle storyline (The Flash#163) which would make it from The Flash#151-163?

2)Will there be a Golden Age Hawkman Archive coming out? Especially since he's the Hawkman in the current Hawkman run written by Geoff Johns?

Thank you very much in advance for answering this question.

What a coincidence. Bob *answered* your questions in advance, too. it's a lot to expect people to wade through well over a thousand messages, but we really need a way to cut down on the repetition as a courtesy to Bob. Does anybody have a thread FAQ either up or in the works? (Of course, if an answer to this has already been posted, I'll look like quite a hypocrite.)

Cole

PS--the JSA Returns request has been noted at least once by Bob, and the chances of more Waid Flash in TPB are apparently nil. Waid's best Flash stories are already in book form anyway. Of course, so are some of his most pitiful.

Actually, (and correct me if I'm wrong, since I'm at work and don't have time to go through both threads), didn't he say that the idea of a complete Hypertime tpb (including the Dark Flash saga) was interesting? So we may (but I wouldn't hold my breath) see that in TBP format.

How can you expect them to do a JSA Returns PB in May when the solicits are due out next week?

Although the PB would be a nice idea (the 1991 JSA series would be better), they aren't that hard-to-find. I've seen many of those issues in bargain bins.

That's true, but that would be one gigantic TPB. We're talking about lots of issues of otherwise unconnected (and in a couple of cases cancelled) comics, organized around a concept that DC has mostly ignored for years, that was introduced by writers who are no longer doing regular series work for the company...I wouldn't hold my breath either.

But with the immediacy of the cartoon and new comic launch (and the younger target audience), it might be good to have these 4 issues released sooner and in a cheaper format.

IMHO this is the point when NEW TEEN TITANS went from "good" to "GREAT!"

Thanks, Bob, for telling us that GA Flash was at least on your list for next year. I can only hope that a convincing argument will be made for this volume making the final cut. It is already had the longest layoff between volumes, which alone could be a strong argument, IMHO. I know it isn't the sole argument, but it's one I hope the committee will seriously consider.

Hmmm. I've experienced the exact opposite, so I guess I've been lucky. Found the one-shots without a problem, though it took some time to come across Sensation. Haven't seen All-Star #2 anywhere.
